Re: Crate Motor
I have heard the same on Jasper crate engines, warrranty cannot be beat, GM craps on ya, if you don't have a GM certified mechanic install the motor.

Re: Crate Motor
see here's my pickle...I am going to iraq soon and going to make the money there..when I get back I wanted to get a 383 stroker...well I already have the 350 which is in great running order as is however I want a 383. I priced all the high performance motors I could find and they all ran 7,500-8,000 for a 400-440hp 383. I went online and used their parts list to buy all the parts needed and it was only 4,400...although it'll save me half the money do you think buying one from them would be better simply because it's professionally tuned or could I have that done?

Re: Crate Motor
The machine work for your 350 to 383 stroker will run what maybe another 5-600.00? They are charging you a good bit, but I think everything is balanced and blueprinted when you spend $7k and up...I would say you could build it yourself for much less if you have the know how..

Re: Crate Motor
I'm in the same position. Too much to rebuild my engine to be a reliable performer, when I can go get a Goodwrench 350 long block and transfer my Edelbrock intake, 750 Edelbrock Q-Jet and my Hooker headers and get it back on the road for around $2K. Even by adding a 350-horse 327 cam from aftermarket supplier will still be a reasonable price.
I'd love to have a 383, but I'm not getting any younger and I think I'm just gonna err on the side of reliable, not that a 383 GMPP engine wouldn't be just that. Still, I gotta price a Jasper engine, but you got to deal with a garage that installs them..... I don't know if we can buy one outright, or not.

Re: Crate Motor
I have to think for 7K it's a forged bottom end. If a cast crank will do and you can live with ~400 HP or so you can easily do this yourself for about $3500. Getting a dyno tune when you're done is about another $300 - $450.
