oops, greattt!
the po of the '72 can't find the keys for it, so i went and got a new ignition lock cylinder. only to find that you can't take the old one out unless you have the keys. so does anyone have any ideas or know how to do this with out tearing up the ignition switch and chrome bezel(which i couldn't get to come off either) it feels like it will un screw to a point but won't come seperate from the switch part. if i can't get it out without tearing it up then i'll just wire everything in with indivdual toggels and call it even.

There are MANY archive posts about this.
Easiest way is to unplug the wirring harness from it and take a saw zaw and cut the old one out (in half) from the back. It will come apart and you can slap the new one in. 10 min job. |

I have used a drill and a large bit to get the switch out before. Its not a big deal to get it out, just takes alittle work.

Do a search for LocDoc. He is your best bet to doing this with a lot of damage.

doesn't the key actually just push a button in the back of the cylinder? i was thinkking you could use a paper clip or somthing.
the 50"s chevy's could be pulled with a paper clip.....used to piss a buddy of mine off, great fun!!
