electric wiper conversion ???

I just put an electric wiper motor[from ecklers] on my 56 that had vac wipers. I have never owned one of these trucks before so I'm not sure as to how much travel the blades should have, but they only travel about 60 degrees,is this normal?? Also the arms that came with it had a 12" wiper blade, is that the correct size, it looks like a bigger blade will fit? How far does yours travel and what size blades do you all have on your truck and am I doing something wrong? Thanks, bud

Re: electric wiper conversion ???

I got rid of the vacuum wipers on my 58 and installed electric with 2 speed motor. One of the best upgrades I did. You should be getting over 90 degrees of wipe. Don't listen to the girls, size don't matter! It's all in how you use it! I also have the small blades and could go larger, but have yet found the need. Besides, the small ones are kinda unique and usually get a chuckle from the buddies. Check the installation of the center bracket that attaches to the motor which activates the left and right arms for the wipers. I think there is only one way to install this but maybe a P.O. installed one with a shorter throw.

Re: electric wiper conversion ???

thanks for the reply. today i took the wiper motor out and compared the distance between the pivots and to see how much travel it had when operating. the pivot pins were 1/4" narrower and it didn't travel as far,so i extended the pivot pins out 1" with the help of my welder. this is a 2 speed wiper motor conversion from eckler, works great now.
