Manual trans to Auto Swap-Need some advice
Hey Guys, Got my 16 year old son a 68 chevy lwb fleet this summer for his first vehicle. It's a 283 with 3 on the tree. We've been working on it and driving it for practice with the 3-speed. I really think he will get the hang of it but he did take out our gate backing out of the driveway the other day. My question is if we switch to an Automatic trans which would you guys suggest? We have a 68 parts truck with original automatic powerglide. Would it be best to use this steering column and tranny or a TH350 or what? Would it be better to get a tranny from Summit or Jegs and which tranny do you guys suggest. Thanks Guys, Jeff.

Re: Manual trans to Auto Swap-Need some advice
I wouldn't use the PG because of it being only a 2 speed tranny.I suggest you look at a TH350 or even a 700R4.You will also need to look at rear end gearing. If you have 3:73-1 then the 700R4 may be a good choice. The rear gear for a factory auto would be a 3:07 to 1.I would encourage you to look thru the FAQ's section and learn more about power brake conversion and disc brake conversions.
