68 Anniversary Models - AGAIN

OK, I went back and read old threads about identifying the anniversary trucks in 1968, but I have a question:

Is it absolutely for CERTAIN that it had to have paint code 551? Mine sure seems to have everything right for it but that. It was gold/white, Custom, fairly well optioned for that time, it had the stripe and everything.

The problem is, it appears to have code 555. I have attached photos of the sticker below as well as photos of the door and doorjams showing how the color was. Is there a definitive answer somewhere?

Wait a minute! As I uploaded the pics, I have to wonder if this is a different color gold?

Close, but the anniversary models had a gold interior. Your sheet shows 4605JD red cloth trim. Also yours has red seatbelts.

You're right - I was just thinking maybe the dealers could order them special or something.

Also, these paint chips make it pretty obvious that the colors are different:

I would like to see one with the otion 4D89AA - Paint Stripe. Where is the stripe on a two-tone truck like these? Is it where the upper moulding would be?

Yeah,it`s in that area. But,the accent paint (white) will be on the top or top and below the side moulding(lower).

Re: 68 Anniversary Models - AGAIN

Back in '68, buyers could specify what they wanted if they didn't necessarily like what was offered. My guess is that a buyer could have ordered a different interior as long as they paid for the difference.

Same goes for colors of paint.

There is an urban legend of a story here where I live that says a guy liked the '62 Chevy anniversary gold (a car color) so much but he wanted it on a new '62 Ford Galaxie. As the story is told, it was gold when it came in, but only the exterior was painted. All of the interior metal was unpainted. At least that is the story that was told.

Re: 68 Anniversary Models - AGAIN

I don't think there was too many options with the anniversary as far as color . That was what made it an anniversary edition.

You could get any color you wanted, with any color seat you want... there's a member up in Canada with a dark blue burb with bright red seats. It is uglier than anything you've ever seen IMO.
However, if you wanted a 50th annv truck in 68, (what the tread is all about) it HAD gold with a white top and white under the moulding, and it HAD a gold and white seat, gold dash pad and visors, and the white door panels. Period. Otherwise, it wasn't a 50th annv truck.

Re: 68 Anniversary Models - AGAIN

I saw a 51st anniversary truck that was gold and white with red seats. They made 51st anniversary trucks in any color you wanted. This one just happened to be gold because somebody liked it.I had a 49th anniversary truck that was baby blue with a small back window.
It`s like the`69 Indy Pace Cars, they all were white with orange stripes. You could get a hugger orange Camaro with white stripes, but it wasn`t a pace car.
