$450 for a damn heater core? Are you kidding me?

I shopped around locally here in northern Pittsburgh and the best rate I could get on the heater core installed is $450... Talk about sticker shock.

I know I could do it myself for the cost of parts @ $80 or so, but I don't have time and the truck is going bye-bye tomorrow. I don't think the new owner would appreciate coolant leaking inside the truck at a nice drip rate.

Augghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

If you go ahead and replace the core yourself make sure you stack at least one 7/16" washer right in front of the heater core, it will serve as a pressure reducer inside so you can't blow it again when you revv up - I did that to both my Lincoln and my truck, never had a problem ever since, and I do revv both of them pretty high up.

Just disconnect it and let him know that it needs to be replaced and offer him $100-$200 back.

I agree, he may not use it anway, he may move to a place like phoenix where you would need it for about a month.

I would tell him what it's doing and offer to buy the parts and give him 100 bucks. Considering he's a car guy he won't mind. BTW- What color did you decide to paint the car?
