What do I call it
What would you call a hybrid 67-72 pickup.
What I mean is I have a 68 chevy swb frame, but I'm going to be using a 72 chevy cab, and then 68 gmc grill. So, legally I think it will end up a 72, but in most peoples eyes your going to see a 68 GMC. Is there some generic term for this? |

Mutt
But when talking to people about it... I think 68 GMC would suffice, no point in getting into the "legality of things."

Re: What do I call it
I think you may have just coined the name for the project.

Re: What do I call it
At first I got scared and thought you were turning your truck into a battery powered lawnmower. But after reading on if you put on the GMC grill you have a GMC regardless of what the title says

Re: What do I call it
I saw a truck for sale the the other day. had a 68 6 lug frame, had a 71 cab, 72 doors, 71 front clip. It was an older restoration, the frame and cab vins matched but I assume someone took off the vin from the 68 cab. You could see behind spots, ie fenders, firewall the original colors. I think someone just took all the best body parts and put them on this truck.
I would just register it as what the cab says

Re: What do I call it
This is a good question...when one restores a truck using various years of truck parts ie: frame, engine, frame, transmission, etc....what does determine the year of the truck? I would assume the initial registration would be the key?

Re: What do I call it
I think I'd have to tell people that it's a mildly kustomized 32 Ford just to see their reaction.

Re: What do I call it
On my restoration I switched cabs so I cut out the vin tag on the 71 and welded it in on the new cab, so the vin tag and the frame #'s still match up.

Re: What do I call it
I have the Johnny Cash truck too. When I started to post i asked the same questions and it really does not matter as long as it is legal. I am building a 69 GMc with no GMC markings with a 1970 chevy cab that already is titled as an antique. When people ask i just say it is the Beater. Unless you anything about these years no one will know anyone and anyone that does will understand and probably not care. But it is a great story to tell.
