lift kits

The PO of a 70 shortbed 4x4 I recently purchased is telling me the lift kit on it is original. I didnt think chevy made any original lifts on these pickups. Anybody know whether they did or not? Thanks

Re: lift kits

I'm pretty sure Dustin's right Chevy didn't make any stock lifts for these pickups.

Re: lift kits

My 69 K20 had very short blocks in the rear and sure looked like I was the first to remove those u-bolts.

Wanna hear something odd, I bought a junker 78 K20 to put it's axles under my K5. This thing was awfully stock and I couldn't believe it when I pulled the front axle from the 78 and there were lift blocks under the springs. If my memory serves me correctly they were about 1" tall. The were not attached to the springs, just sitting there like a normal rear block. I can't say they were there from the factory but everything under there looked about rusted the same.

Re: lift kits

i had a 70 3/4 ton 4x4 several years back with short blocks in the rear that appeared original. they had a GM part number cast into them and according to my big green factory parts book the 3/4 ton 4x4s with HD springs in the rear had the little blocks. if i remember correctly, they were about 3/4" tall. as for a "factory" lift kit---never heard of anything.

Re: lift kits

I parted out a 69 4x4 and it had small lift blocks in the rear with G.M. part #,s on them. my 72 didn't have any blocks but the front spring hangers for the rear springs were different between the two trucks, 72 spring hangers hung down farther from the frame rail than the 69 had.

Re: lift kits

My`72 GMC has those little blocks in the rear and air shocks. No factory lift kits."Lift kits" didn`t come around until after these truck weren`t being made anymore. And,I`ve never seen anything GM made considered to be lifted over stock from the factory other than the ZR2s.
