upper ball joint question
How different are the 67-70, 71-72 and 73-87 upper ball joints? I'm trying to fgure out if my new ball joints for my ART uppers are correct. They fit in my spindle but go so far in before they get snug that the cotter pin wont hit the castel nut's ears. So i'm wondering if my spindels are for 73-87 or if my new ball joints are for 67-70. Or if its right and i just need to washer down the nut? here are a couple pics..Any help would be appriciated..

Re: upper ball joint question
I have the new castle nuts that came with the new ball joints.. I was just wondering if there is a differance in the uppers or if its just the lowers that changed.. I searched but never found any answers on this.. Maybe one of the suspension wizards will chime in and let me know ...

Re: upper ball joint question
The taper is a bunch different on the 73 up 1/2 ton pcs, vs the 71-72 pcs. The LOWER ball joints are the same from 71-87, but the UPPER balljoints, & OUTER tierod ends are 71-72, or 73-87 specific. Of course ,the 67-70 parts are totally different. You can check the taper on the ball joint, by wiping some fine valve lapping compound on the tapered part of the pin, & turning it back/forth a few times in the spindle. If it seats properly, you will see a "lap line " all around & full depth of the spindle(however far the pin is in). Best of luck, L
