Re: whats a good engine for a k10 saberban

Hoping to hear some answers to this engine question. Wondering what kind of HP/TQ numbers others consider to be needed. I know this can be a chest pounding kind of subjective question!

The crate 350 in my burb is a bit lack luster. I'm guessing it's the base '250hp' gm crate. (and that would be with headers, etc.) It's not as peppy as my 5800lb Avalanche and that is rated at 290hp/330 tq. (Burb is roughly 6000lb.) The Avalanche tows heavy loads adequately. ..... I would think the 300hp/tq range would be a good range for the burb.... but a little more would be better.

Again, I would love to hear other's opinion on this matter.

Wil

p.s. Interior parts can be had at plenty of places... Brothers, Jim Carter, LMC, GMC Pauls, etc.

The engine with the most torque will give you the best bang for the buck. Don't worry much about HP numbers. A big and heavy suburban needs torque to get moving. That is what you feel in the seat of your pants when accelerating. What to buy or build? Buy the most that you can afford and have fun.

I'm going with a 383, 415 lb torque, 330 hp. If you need a complete interior let me know, maybe we can work something out, trade etc. My sub is going Escalade Esv inside

Budget?

IMHO, I'd get it running right before looking for a new engine. You might be surprised what that "all stock" engine will do when it's healthy...and you can get those TQ/HP improvements without a whole new engine.

You're looking for 400+ FWTQ all below 4000 RPM or so. HP is secondary as noted

Most crate engines are set up for cars, not trucks. A cam change can REALLY wake up a crate motor in our trucks!

Note that crate engine stats are flywheel numbers, engines in the car are rated SAE net...

BBC or stroker, or better yet, BBC stroked!!! I am planning to stroke a 454 well past the 500ci mark in the near future. Torq is what makes you giggle, my Cummins pushes you into the seat so hard the seat and your @$$/back become one!!

Cummins Diesel 4b or 6b, then you could make your own Biodiesel and say F*Ck you big Oil companies Plus you can get those things jacked to 700-800 ft/torque and 300+ hp.......I know it's not a GM engine but those fossil fuel supplies aren't getting any cheaper. IMHO
