The person that bought that truck was a member at one time if I remember correctly. I have seen pics after all that duct tape was removed. VERY solid truck, tape is misleading.

I thought that, that truck was like a board members truck. Someone cleaned all the ducttape off of it and it looked semi-normal. Maybe I'm thinking of a different truck that someone did the same to it.???

A board member had inherited that truck from his senile old grandfather after he had passed away. He said his grandfather was building a space ship out of it. Kina sad if you realy think about it. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

I agree !!! What an imagination, and he couldn't have used a better truck to try and leave earth orbit with. At least he would be cruising in style

That's Russ's truck. He lives near where I used to, and he's known as Russ 72 C/10 now or something. The story I heard was that his Grandpa was making it into a "spaceship" or something. Pretty "interesting" at any rate.

ROTFLMAO!!!
That's my grandpa's old 70 C10! He gave it to me when he moved out of that place... I then proceeded to remove all of the metal from it.... pie pans, oven racks, halogen lamp gaurds.... you name it! He actually did mention something to the effect of building a spaceship with it! I remember seeing him drive around town in the truck, just like it is in the pictures. He'd park it in the back of any parking lot, and walk 2 miles to get to the door... he was PROUD Of that old ugly thing! LOL! Here's the progress I made w/ the truck in a matter of 2 days time... but it found a new home, and now I have a much better '72 SWB to use as a project base! Check out the pictures! EDIT : By the way, grandpa is still alive & kickin'! But he's not allowed near any other classic vehicles! ![]()

Russ, thats awesome. The truck did look pretty solid afterwards. Gotta love our grandparents. My grandfather has a '71 gmc sierra grande, everything on it, sitting next to his barn rusting away. He told me I could have it (surprising since he NEVER gets rid of anything), but he has yet to walk up to me with the keys or title. Guess he thinks he'll take it with him. Of course, this is the same grandfather who sold his 1964 ford stepside, with 48,000 miles on it for $200 to a farmer friend. I asked him why? He said "I didn't know anyone wanted that ol' truck". Thats why I told him I want his gmc.

Russ72C10, I'm sorry to hear you no longer have the truck. I've been following your web site waiting for an update on the restoration. Taking that truck from "before" to "after" would have been an interesting read. I enjoy seeing trucks (or cars) that are handed down in the family -- probably just me getting sentimental in my old age.

Hey Russ, I would have loved to have met your grandpa!! The first question I would have asked him is "how many rolls of duct tape did you use?" And the second one would be "do you think one more roll will be enough protecetion to protect the cab from the ill effects of re-entry burn?"
He sounds like an interesting old fellow! All I can say is I wish I had a grampa around to swap stories with ![]() |
