Arizona's billion dollar deficit comes through for the 'burb!

I'm so pumped!

The current AZ gov, Jane Hull, made a few blunders during her time in office. One of her most notable is how she got a program together to pay for about 1/4 - 1/3 of the cost of a new vehicle if you got it with propane capabilites. This was an attempt to clean Phoenix's air. She didn't expect the overwhelming response to the program, and instead of the budgeted $4 million, it ended up to be over $400 million, earning her the nickname, "Propane Jane".

Anyway, that, combined with some other bad programs, put the AZ deficit to roughly a billion. That now means deep statewide budget cuts.

You're probably wondering, "How does that help the 'burb?"

MAGNESIUM CHLORIDE IS EXPENSIVE!!!

AZ has gone back to using (cheap) cinders on the highways (at least up here). We had a little snowstorm last night, and I got to drive on 45 miles of cinder covered road instead of frame-eating, brake-shoe destroying MgCl!!! Yay!

Just thought I'd share my excitement and the joy of Arizona returning to a salt-free state (at least for now)!

What do you mean by cinders. Cinders in my language is ash. Where do they get them?

Just curious.

Arizona Vocabulary. Lesson #1

Cinders - those red, lightweight, easy to break rocks that come flying out of a volcano as liquid. Find the right one, and it will float! They give good traction on snow because of their lumpy, jagged nature.

I live in a HUGE volcano field. Just about every bump in the landscape is a volcano. Thankfully, all are inactive!
