off to pinstriping

I'm hoping to get my truck "striped" this weekend. I'm more or less open to anything, that is except a bunch of swirlies. I am almost tempted to get an out line flame job. If any one has any ideas or pics let me know.
I will post the end results Thanks Sal

Re: off to pinstriping

Hey ratrod60... thats how flames should look in my opinion! I love that classic hot wheel looking flame!

I will be getting some pinstripe outline flames as well. If you have seen frizzles flames on his bed that is what I want but over my front fenders like ratrod60's.

Not to sure on the color though. I painted my block early on in chevy orange just to keep it real. So I might do orange striping just so the block matches something. Although I dont think I will really dig orange pinstrip flames.

Did I just hijack ur thread? Sorry for rambling.

Oh yea I agree , but I am on a budget ( thus the El Cheepo )
Any ways the striper can't do it this weekend . He laid out what I wanted with a grease pencil, and I think it will come out sweet.
stay tuned .........

Hopefully this weekend . Most stripers use grease,or a STABILO pencil to lay out there work. If you ever get a chance to see it done it is a trip. They make it look so easy. In fact I have the mac brushes, one shot paint , and just about all you need to stripe, except experiance !!!
I can lay down some straight lines, and a few simple swirls, but I cant do the flames I want.
I will keep you posted

Hello Salazar, I'm an old signpainter, and when a person uses the term grease pencil, they usually mean stabilo, as was brought up by the other folks that responded.. Stabilo pencils are water soluable and grease pencils require solvents for clean up. Never use a grease pencil for striping and lettering.

It definitely is an issue if it is drawn on too heavy even with a stabilo. The trick to good adhesion is a very thorough cleanup then use a blue or white stabilo, depending on your background color. Any other stabilo colors either cant be seen or dont clean off well. Draw your image as light as possible. When I am painting a stabilo layout often times observers will ask if its completely freehand, and I will respond "sure!" They cant see my layout I drew from their angle. Of course as I age I can't see what the hell I'm doin either!

If you really want to tackle this stuff, approach it like you are learning to play a guitar, because it will take a lot of practice before anything you do pleases you if you are after a quality job.

Later---DAC

Hey DAC..thats some good info. I really appreciate it. I am a pro hobbyist! Meaning that I usually like to try EVERYTHING that looks the slightest bit interesting to me. I guess I will consider getting a starter kit of sorts. My pc will be all pinstriped up! LOL.

yea, He called me on Saturday and said bring it down. I went and picked it up Sunday, and found out he had done nothing. This guy has a rep for doing outstanding work , but also as being a flaker, as I have found out.
So no still no pinsriping . I am tempted to do it my self, (not the flames)
But the good news is I spent the money and bought a disc brake kit.
