The qjet is about shot, and I'm thinking about getting either an Edelbrock 1405 or 1406. What would be the pros/cons of both? Thanks, guys.

Go electric, easy to install, works great.

Thanks, Redneck. Where would the electric hook up, just anywhere that's not a constant power source?

I used one of the ignition hot terminals on the fusebox.
Definitely go electric if anyone else will drive your truck.
I'm not sure which Edelbrock I have, but it pours gas out and stalls on steep down and side hills. Not the best for wheeling, but works well otherwise.

Hook it up to a "key on" source. You don't want it on all the time, it will kill your battery.

Cool. I think the 1406 is a 600cfm carb. Should be plenty for how I use the truck.

I Just bought a 750cm Q-jet for my 402. The carb on the motor is for a 350 I think...it wasnt running proper. Im intalling today...will let you know of outcome. The carb was $300.00 from jeggs.

I have the edelbrock 1406 (it was on the truck when I bought it) I have had no problems whatsoever with it!

Yep, electric choke for sure - automagic

The 600 is FINE for any 350 up to about 350 HP.

rebuild the qjet! I had an edlebrock and my engine never ran right. Had my original qjet rebuilt to engine spces. It has never ran so good, and mileage picked up a bit too.

I've been kicking around the idea of having it rebuilt. Get about 13-14 mpg (mostly highway) right now. So, not real sure what mileage would be w/ the q-jet when working properly. Decisions, decisions. A problem w/ rebuilding would be that I drive it to work everyday, so it couldn't be out of commission very long.

id say the 1406 electric choke also, and i have seen these carbs support well over 350 horse i would think that at about the 425/450 horse range youd need an upgrade

I had my q-jet built about a month ago by http://www.smicarburetor.com/
on the advice of another member. It does work great. I have not spent the time to get the factory choke working properly, nor do I completely understand how the spring loaded rod turns off the choke other than by the temperature. Anyway shipping there and back plus the rebuild (factory)
with no appearance refurbishing was $230.00. I let him know a board member sent me and he didn't sound that interested, although he seemed like a great guy. I would let him know you were referred by the board in case we start to send him enough business maybe we can get a price break. I have a speed demon 750 double pumper that is brand new but ahs been sitting for a few years after being put on the dyno that I am going to get him to freshen up as well. My long winded .02 cents.
