WTB: Longbed in San Fran or surrounding area

Got a friend with a large truck there now, he'll be empty on Friday. This is a long shot, but I need a bed for my C/K30 project.

Good shape only need apply.

Re: WTB: Longbed in San Fran or surrounding area

I have a 72 bed in great shape. just not ready off the truck yet. it has the tool box, factory extra gas tank, no rust, great looking floor too. large barden bumper too. I need to keep the tailgate though. I want $1200.00 for it.
I am about 80 miles east of SF.
if you want pics I will take them tomorrow.
I might be able to get it off and ready for him by Friday if you are interested.

Ok, how about something like this? It has a metal rollpan.

Re: WTB: Longbed in San Fran or surrounding area

Grendel,

Mine has a straight tailgate on it. It is on a Sierra grande titled to me (non-opped last year, no back regs., pink in hand) you could run the license plate with DMV. I purchased the truck from a guy who inherited it from his dad (original owner), then he decided to hot rod it with headers, loud flow masters, edelbrock, roll pan, etc. He said the engine knocks when warm. It didn't do it when I picked it up but I took his word and hired a flatbed tow truck to tow it from San Jose to Pittsburg for $300. I drove it on the tow truck and drove it off into my side yard where it sits. It did start to rattle after fully warmed up and I revved it. I purchased the engine you see in the bed and a new hoist with intentions of putting it in. I also purchased a shell for the truck to keep the engine out of the weather. I never opened the hoist box. I'm to busy with other things. The only rust on the truck that I know is a small section on the passenger floor and the drivers door outside corners but I have also purchased 2 rustfree doors with the same paint scheme.

So with all the time and money I have invested in it I won't sell the bed cheap because as you've probably seen with my grab bag (white towel) sales I want to clean up stuff here and parting this truck will set me backwards. I MIGHT sell it for $1200 with the tailgate (with or without the shell) but your guys are going to have to pull it off without damaging the rest of the truck and not leaving a big mess. I parted one truck in my life and swore I'd never do it again. I had to sell the stuff cheap and fast to guys pulling stuff themselves because the city was all over me. I had to scrap a lot that was left over. That truck was a pretty straight Highlander with lots of options (tilt, toolbox, aux tank, aux battery etc) but had DMV issues which I didn't want to deal with. In retrospect it would have been far better to deal with DMV than parting it out. I probably would have made money on that deal by selling it after paying the $800 back regs because the engine would lay lots of rubber on the pavement. And I'm thinking it might be better off for me to just pay someone to install the engine and tune this truck and I'd have a nice driver. Hope you understand my reluctance in parting with the bed alone.

The guy Jerry recommended has a lot of clean stuff. Although I have never met him or been to his yard I have seen his ads on craigslist. Guys around here says he is very fair. You might want to call him as his stuff would be ready to load with easier access.

Luis

Nice bed, you should keep that truck together.

See, this is what my experience has been. I sold two of them last year for 200 or less. For these prices, I am looking at one mighty sweet flatbed.

Re: WTB: Longbed in San Fran or surrounding area

I think I sold mine last year cheaper than that. I traded it for an AM/FM which I believe I sold for $150. It was a factory toolbox factory aux tank bed. But this was the highlander truck I had already started parting. The guys cut the bed in half and loaded it in their truck even though the bed floor and header panel was straight. They made a lot of noise cutting and grinding until 8 pm. Another group pulled the engine for $140 I believe, and I wish I had a video camera ready, they used 4x6's and loaded the engine in a car trunk.

A flatbed would be the way to go. I was thinking the same thing, if I got rid of the bed, I may be able to sell the truck as a flat bed project.

Today, the fence in the pic is leaning badly and I may have to get rid of the truck to get a new fence installed.

That truck looks clean, why are you parting with the bed.
