more tbi questions.

im still workin on gettin the 350 tbi motor into my truck. i have a new knock sensor that ill need, but ill also need an esc module for it. should i get one for the year of the truck, which is 87, or the year of the engine, which is 93. the computer is the 87 305 which will be getting a 350 prom. also, does anyone know the colour to size of injector relationship? mine are red or orange top, which i think are the 55lb/hr ones, but im not sure. anyone?

also, I think the 350's from 87 to 95 are pretty much identical, so I would say go with the 95 stuff, might be better?

I think it will need to match the ECM and the distributor to work properly. Since they used pretty much the same system, teh parts may even be the same.

right on, thanks for the answers. i just got some of the parts for the engine today, and the esc was with it. heres hopin it works

I did a TPI 305 to TPI 350 swap in my IROC. Granted it's a different fuel management system, but the ESC is basically the same and serves the same purpose. There was a different part number for the 305 vs. 350 ESC, but I could tell absolutely no difference when swapping them. I'd say use what you have, but if you have problems, I'd get one for an 87 tbi 350 truck. Chances are it's the same part number all the way through 95 for the tbi 350 applications.

Well, what we have here is one heck of a salad. No pun intended, but let take a look at this closely.

First, which ECM are planning to retain in your truck? My guess it will 1227747 and for a typical 350 with automatic can use EPROM with ASDU broadcast code - it should work. For '87 350 flat tappet cam uses Knock Sensor (350) 10456288, and ESC Module (350) 16128261.

Second, you need to check couple of things about '93 350. Does it use a roller cam and which heads you have on this bad boy?
Roller cam applications require different knock sensor - Check this part number first, 10456018, but in late '80s there were 350's in TPI powered F-bodies with roller cams. Since knock sensor is specifically tuned to engine combo (CID and cam type). Also, check ESC module to match.
If you have fast burn heads this may require timing reduction, since fast burn heads do not need as much timing advance as older style wedge heads.

Third, for mild mannered 350 you will need 61 lb-hr injectors @13psi, which have orange-black color code marking and typically have 5235206*RPD (service part number 17112493).

I would expect some tuning (and prom burning) since '93 engine would have better heads and probably better cam profile. Sorry for a long rant.

dont worry about ranting, the information is excellent. it does have a roller cam, but i havnt checked the heads yet. ill do it tuesday when i get back in the shop. the computer im usin is the origional 1987 305 computer thsats still in the truck, im going to replace the prom with a 350 one, allthou im thinkin now with the 93 350 ill need a custom prom to work with the computer. any suggestions on where to get one, i dont have the gear to burn them

For ZZ4 style engine (hydraulic cam, 350) GM lists the following parts in their retrofit kit (10185077 - HO 350 Camaro Conversion) for LG4 Camaros.

Sensor, Knock 10456288
