oil consumption question

i have noticed since i have put in my 350 40000 miles ago that it has consumed about a quart plus between every oil change. everything on the motor was new from carb to oil pan. the truck runs extremely strong and the plugs are in great condition. what could cause this? there are no symtoms such as any kind of smoke at all. could it be crank case blow by?

Re: oil consumption question

If you're replacing the oil at regular intervals such as 2500 to 3000 miles, that's not bad. A lot of mechanics will tell you that's about normal.

Re: oil consumption question

Sounds normal to me. My "re-built" 350 goes through a quart every 700-900 miles with very clean plugs and no smoke (and only very minimal leaking I should add).

I understood him to mean that it's been doing it since he installed the engine 40k miles ago..

Re: oil consumption question

When I worked at the GM dealer we were told that 1 quart per 1,000 miles in normal. According to that you're above spec.
