I'm still working on the frame, but I have it almost all primed with rattle cans I used a wire brush on a grinder and drill to clean it up. Then used the rust to primer stuff. I'm still going to spray primer with a air gun and I don't know if i'll paint it black or use undercoating on it. I was thinking spray it black then undercoat the whole frame. I just don't know if it will look good like that. This isn't going to be a show truck but I want it to look good....I want it driveable by winter and can only work on it outside.

My son wanted to beat on it a little bit while taking the body off. the door was stuck. we tried everything to open it. finally we got it open with a chain and a f150 4x4, The body was trash. I already have another body to put on it.

I would consider a rust converting paint on that frame... POR or eastwoods encapolatoer (I doubt i spelled that right) What you have done won't stop the rust, it will hardly even slow it down. But after being heated like that, it's gonna rust, and bad.

I was worried about that. I did take my time with the wire brush on the grinder, and got nearly all of the rust. Sprayed it with the turns rust to primer stuff then rustolum rusty metal primer. Can I use Por or eastwoods now that it's primed?

Do you think the rust will come back if I spray a thick coat of primer over what I have done then paint. after painting undercoat it.....You think It would rust under the paint? I was hoping with all that stuff on it no air would get to it and it would preserve it. Over a year ago I did this to a bed that looked like it had more surface rust than paint. I used the rust to primer and just primed over it and the rust hasn't come back yet.

I don't think the frame got that hot. It didn't melt any of the cab mounts, front break lines, the rubber on the shocks. the radiator support mounts. or the lower belt on the engine. It had a bedliner in it. the sides melted but the floor of the liner didn't hardly melt at all. The engine still has the same lower belt on it. in the pics and you can see the hose from the power steering box isn't melted half way down.

ok... my fault... I misread what yoiu have been doing. I thought you were knocking it all down with a wire brush. If you are getting it down to good clean metal, then you're probably gonna ge OK.

Yes, I spent alot of time on it. Of course it is impossible to get 100% of the rust this way, but I did get the most of it. I sprayed the rust to primer on hoping that It would get anything that was left behind. With using a drill/grinder wire wheels and cups even if it looked like cleen metal to the eye there is still some rust on there. If you think I need to do something else let me know. it is easier to fix things with the body off.

If I were to use por now would I have to get oll of the primer off....Or do you guys think my plan should work for the rust?
