1971 or 1972

is there any way to tell the difference between a 71 and 72, besides the vin of course. There is a truck parked behind someone house near the alley I didn't want to walking through someones yard (yet) to take a look at. if i do, i was going to look through the windows to see what shape, but wasn't going to open the door, unless i can track down the owner, haven't been able to do so. what is the difference, externally and internally?

The rearview mirror on the windshield is a good indicator of a 72. Also 72 will have molded plastic door panels. Original 72 doors are going to have an extra screw that's right below the vent window on the inside of the door. If it still has an original grill shell a 71 has kind of a black strip that goes around the outside edge while a 72 is just going to be aluminum.

I agree Those are some of the best indicators.

Re: 1971 or 1972

Yep,the mirror is the most obvious since most of the`71s accent paint has faded off the grille over the years.Next I look to see if there`s a mirror mount in the header panel in case they changed it to the windshield.Once looking inside,I can then see if the door panels and dimples are`72.But,the doors can be changed.
You`re better than me.If they`re unlocked,I can`t stop myself from checking the spid.I`ll prolly end up shot one day. But,hey, life`s meant to be enjoyed.
