All K5 owners what's the gross weight on the door plack - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I'm trying to buy this k5 here in phoenix and we have very strict emission laws. The current owner has the jimmy registered in another area to get past the emission testing, this truck has never gone through emissions sinces its been in az.

I now need to know the gross vehicle weight, this determines what kind of emissions it came with. Just got off the phone with department of environmental quality, they said if the vehicle is 6000 Ilbs or less cats and other equipment is required, over 6000 it's not. So any help you K5 guys can give me would be appreciated. Again I need the gross vehicle weight on the door plack for a 1978 K5 or jimmy.

I'd say its definitely under 6k lbs, but i do not own one so I cant be sure.

hmm dont know have to ask my cosin but for gross weight i just put my truck to 10001 so i wouldnt have emissions in virginia. (prince william county) you should be able to up the gross weight and put truck tags on it you can even personalize them.

Doesn't work that way here, it goes by the manufactures gross weight not what you can add, thanks though.

my plaque got painted over. I have to belive its under 6000 though.

If I was you I would put a door sticker on it that read 6100lbs. If they can prove otherwise what are they going to do? Shoot you?
In the Frasier Valley in BC they have Air Care and people up their registered weight all the time to get around it.
That or farm plates or antique plates.

Yes it does, now yours is a two drive, and a 4wd would be heavier, i.e. transfer case & front axel right? If that is so that will put me over the 6001 lbs meaning i would not need cats and th other emission equipment.

The sticker on my 86 k5 says 6050.
