Hey guys, I really need some help finding this part.......

I'm trying to get a new filter to fit an after market air cleaner setup. Does anybody know of a website I could go to and look up a filter just by it's dimensions? I want a filter that is oval. It's 14 1/2" from front to back (long?) and 7 3/4" from side to side (wide?) and I want it to be at least 3" tall, 4" would be the biggest I would want it. Thanks for your help, I know there's bound to be a parts guy on here that can cross reference this for me....... Thanks, ....Jerry

I use to work at a local Napa Auto Parts for 10 years. If you go to your local Napa tell them that you need the wix spec book it will show pics of the type of filter then you can go to the size you are looking for. If you don't have a Napa local send me a pm and I will get it for you.

Re: Hey guys, I really need some help finding this part.......

Thanks guys, I'll give them a shot, but the local Napa doesn't have any "Smokey Yunick's" working there if you get my drift.
And yeah, I get a lot of flak from the local Redskin fans about the avatar, but the last few years I surprisingly haven't heard much from them. ...Thanks guys, .......Jerry

Hey guys, I've got some more info if anybody can help me. Good news, Bad news...I found a filter that is the size I need......Bad news, it's a K&N filter (part# E-3514) and it's $60 for just the filter. Whether you like K&N or don't like them, it's still too much money for me right now. If anybody can cross this over into a less expensive air filter (purolater, fram, wix, etc.) I would be most thankful. Thanks guys.......Jerry

Re: Hey guys, I really need some help finding this part.......

Forget it. I looked it up and it's a oval filter, won't find a stocker that shape unless you make one out of a round filter???

Re: Hey guys, I really need some help finding this part.......

i tried to post this earlier and it did not show up, so forgive me it ends up here twice.
try some of the fords sites, those old cobra dual carb motors and the autolite inline 4 barrel carbs used an oval filter, also i think the thunder bvolts may have as well. maybe a ford fan-natic will have the low buck low down on this one.

K&N list applications for each part # on their site.

Re: Hey guys, I really need some help finding this part.......

Beautimus has a great idea. That`s what I was thinking, that the dual quad filters from Ford could work. There won`t be a cross-ref for a "custom" filter by application. Is there a number or maker on your filter?Did you try Smmit or Jegs?Where did you get it?Try there.I dee some of these cool filter assemblies and wonder just this,"what about a replacement element?"I`d assume they used K&N or other re-useable filter,at least.

And,last of all....."GOT ANY PICTURES????!!!!!

Re: Hey guys, I really need some help finding this part.......

I was thinkin' of the Ford dual quad filters, too. But I'm gonna bet that they're out of production and any that exist are NOS and expensive. At $60 from K&N, it ain't too bad. Most of their filters are $40 and up, anyway. If that is too much money, use something else until you can handle it. Life sucks like that from time to time, I have found.

Re: Hey guys, I really need some help finding this part.......

go to walmart and just start opening up boxes of the fram filters till you find it

or summit has oval filters the overall is 15X81/4 so i'd think just the element is a bit smaller

Re: Hey guys, I really need some help finding this part.......

OK, I called my NAPA guy with the info, and he came up with 2 that are kinda close.
napa p/n 6211 is real close, but the filter tapers from top to bottom. I can't quite picture it in my mind, but if you went to your local napa and held it in yout hand, you might be able to see what's up.

napa p/n6417 sounds almost perfect, but it is 6 inches tall.

Hope this helps.

Tim, what kinda picture do you want me to draw? I have a couple drawings of trucks scattered around the house... but your average 12 year old would put me to shame.

Re: Hey guys, I really need some help finding this part.......

Man, thanks guys, and I can always count on Tim for comic relief. I made a $4.85 gamble on a round filter that I "convinced" that it wanted to be oval. It looks okay, it's just that it's 5" thick, a little much, but we'll see. I think I'll leave this on and see if at the end of my build I can round up an extra $60 for the K&N. Thanks guys for all the help. Hey Longhorn, the tapered filter won't work and I just had to laugh when you described p/n 6417....LOL It's all about the 6 inches, right..... LOL Tanks again guys, you've all been a big help..........Jerry
