Help!!!!

I have just installed a 350 with a 3 speed automatic transmission in my 65 fleetside. I need suggestions on how to connect the throttle. When you push in the gas peddle the throttle rod only travels a ½ to ¾ of an inch. The throttle bracket on my new motor’s carburetor travels way more than an inch. Any suggestions?

Re: Help!!!!

I did the same conversion on my 66 (but with a 700r4) - I ended up going back and forth with different pedals, cables, linakges, etc. Finally ended up with the stock pedal/arm and it works great. I bent a 1/4" rod to connect to the carb. I'll snap a picture when I get home and post it for you.

Re: Help!!!!

an original carb. throttle in 1960's also needs more pull distance than the acual level creates when stepping on the gas. it creates more pull distance from 2nd lever closer to the carb. You can create this and secure it close to the carb. on your 350. To explain or understand this level take a pencil/pen and hold it <1 inch up w/ your index and thumb. Move the short end with your other hand that distance your 1 rst lever gas pendal allows. The opposite long end that you weren't touching now moves 3-4X the distance that the 1rst lever close to the fireawall moves. Go to pick n' pull/auto wrecker and you'll probable find plenty levers that will work for your 350 carb. GOOD LUCK you'll work it out.

Re: Help!!!!

Here's some pics, hope they help. Basically a 1/4" rod (bent to fit) threaded one end to secure to pedal. I used an edelbrock adapter to hook it to the carb and to have some adjustment on length, but if you get the length right, you could just bend another 90 in the rod and attach directly to the carb. I did end up using a mounting hole close to the center of the pivot shaft on the carb like 3speed said.
