I have debated sharing this for a while... There is a yard I drive by every day that crushes @ 60 cars a week. There is a hole in the fence where you can see thru - just a few cars are visible. Every time the stack of 'new' old cars changes over, there is something in the 67-72 truck era or Gm muscle car - visible just thru this hole. Once in a while, I take a pic. This looks like it would have been a great tailgate and hatch for somebody... Don't bother. I already tried. Guy doesn't want to part anything. He makes plenty of cash selling the steel. Heard a '67 chevelle convertible went thru last month. Save your vintage american steel!!!

That is a real shame. That Burb was registered in Arlington, WA and was current as of 12/06. What the heck happened that made it go from currently registered to destroyed in a matter of months?

If you don't mind sharing the location of the yard, I'd be interested in taking a look at what goes through there.

seems like he would make more money parting out a few things then the raw steel price he would make,, but I guess its his business. I would like to have that diesel mercades, if it ran,, I heard those things run forever.....

I've heard some of the car donation places send them straight to the wreckers which might explain the Burbs quick demise.

Fleetside, I bet you're right--some of the other cars in the photo also appear to be too nice for the crusher. They were probably donated by people who thought their vehicles would be sold to a new owner/driver, not straight to the junkyard. And of course the charities wouldn't want that info to come out...might reduce their donations!

I knew I smelled a conspiracy here... ;-)

Crush = Coin. This guy doing it his way is really the best for him in the long run. He does not have to deal with the public nickel and diming him to death and if he is crushing 60 cars a week this is huge money. The little wrecking yard that I go to does a crush every 3 months = $40.000 at the end of the day. A vehicle has 90 days to part out and it's gone. This is one reason that I make a point of droping in every month.

There was a blue/white fleetiside at the bottom of the pile this morning. Still had the woodgrain tailgate panel. Could be a cheyenne super

I'll try to get a pic. Maybe thru the fence I can reach the fasterners with my screwdriver?

I've been to a couple close to me that automatically crush anything more than 20 years old. I tried to reason with the guy that those are the ones to be saving

Well, the truck that matches the tailgate is somewhere else but... I can see a set of buddy buckets just laying in the bed and the tag frame says "Big Block" on the bottom line.

I wouldn't but I think about it.

There's a '66 or so truck a few cars over.

It is sad to see all them parts going to waste but It just makes our trucks that much rarer and drives the prices even higher

if it is in line for the crusher, I would think they would sell them outright for crush weight price. 100$/ton, 2 ton sub, 200$. ..... but sometimes when doing simple math with a guy at a salvage yard, they sometimes turn into mellon balls.

p.s no offense to salvage yard owners who are not mellon balls.

My yard crushes 2 to three a month. It's all business with these guys. These are Colorado local trucks too!! Mostley rust free!!! I have thought about offering $500 for every one they get, and parting them for cash, but who has the time? Would be great for a retired guy!!!

Some people think that because it's old it's junk. I just bought my friend's dad's perfectly running 86 ford f150 xlt for 800 bucks. 351 windsor with only 50 thousand miles too. It had a coolant leak and he thought it was just junk after that. A few bucks in parts and it's as good as new and it's got the coldest blowing ac ever! I know it's ford but it's worth something right?
