Re: 4x4 duel exhaust

The one's I have seen goes over the T-Case on the pass side. Mine had single exhaust with a Y off the engine originally....

Re: 4x4 duel exhaust

On my shorty, the exhaust runs between the t-case and frame on both sides straight back to the rear bumper and exit under the license plate...Too bad it won't work with my new headers..I think I'll just put the manifolds back on.Also,it had a newer t-case and didnt use the torque mount on the passenger side so it was easier to put the exhaust through there..

Re: 4x4 duel exhaust

I have dual 2 1/2 and it goes over the t-case on the pass. side. There is not a lot of room in there and I am sure it transfers quite a bit of heat into the 205. You need an exhaust guy that is a pretty good bender to get the pipes where they need to be.

Re: 4x4 duel exhaust

This is the system I have on my 69 K20 that has a bit of a body lift and is running a bbc. The exhaust was installed by American Muffler in Wichita, KS. From the Dynomax headers it uses 3" pipe to the x-pipe, then 2 1/2" pipe to Dynomax UltraFlo's and continues as 2 1/2" pipe dumping at the rear of the flatbed angled down slightly.

Here are some pics of the system. This is the X-pipe that I had built by someone I found on E-bay.

Rather than use the collector piece that came with the headers, American Muffler made their own piece

The passenger side collector was fairly close to the transfer case. Here is a pic of the pipe coming over the transfer case

Here is the X-pipe installed directly behind the transfer case

And here is an example of the welds at the X-pipe

Re: 4x4 duel exhaust

Here are the Dynomax mufflers

Pretty straight shot to the rear of the truck

The pipes dumb right before the hitch and are well protected

Re: 4x4 duel exhaust

I have 2.5 tubing that goes over the crossmember on the driver side, and over the crossmember/transfer case on the passinger side. If you are using headers, look at the clearance between the pass side collector and the front, rear spring shackle. Its real close. I had to turn my bolt around cause it was hitting.

Re: 4x4 duel exhaust

I just ran mine over the transfer case then dumps out right before the rear axle. Dont have pics right now of what it looks like but it isnt very pretty kind of rusty. Yukon Jack has a nice system and I would copy that one if I could

Re: 4x4 duel exhaust

I`ve been running headers and dual exhaust on every 67-72 4wd I`ve owned and didn`t know there was supposed to be a problem doing it.I`ve never seen heat affect my t-case,the pipes run over the t-case crossmember/next to t-case/inside frame.I have pipes made with the offset needed and weld the header bell flanges on.I bolt those on with mufflers and drive to the custom exhaust shop. The exhaust guy pulls that off and starts bending using the pieces I had on the truck.

Re: 4x4 duel exhaust

I 2.5" true duals that were bent up by a local exhaust shop. None of it looks particularly difficult on my truck. The pipes run on their respective sides between the transfer case and the frame. It's a bit snug on the driver side in a couple spots. Once past the transfer case it's a straight shot until they go over the axles, then out the sides behind the tires. It's about to fall off so I need to get it redone, and this time I'm going to have them build it in sections so I don't have to cut it to work on the truck, and also want them straight out the back.

My truck is an 87 with a 454, TH400 and NP205 transfer case. The exhaust tucks up nicely and is not lower than the frame at any point except where it exits the truck. I don't have a body lift.

Re: 4x4 duel exhaust

The '68 K10 I'm starting to tear down had headers and duals on it. They routed the pipes around the transfer case. Looks like there was plenty of clearance.

The pipes look like they're sitting on it in this photo because the engine has been pulled.
