A trip to the junk yard…..

I went to U-Pull It today and found some interesting stuff.
One that I didn’t know is what looks to be factory power steering on a ’67!
I didn’t know they offered PS back then. Is desirable for the ‘67 people or do they want something newer?

I think I found a posi and have some questions these rear ends. I was walking around several 76 -72 trucks and rotating the rear ends and found one that spins the drive line from both ends. Its on a ’70 1/2 ton 350ci. Does this mean that it may be a posi? On the others only one side would turn the driveline (mostly on the passenger side).

I also found this rear end with a cover off and thought it looked like a posi. Is it?

I’ve read threads on here that suggest that the junk yard finds may cost as much as upgrading the one I have. Is this a true statement? Or do I need one to have the correct pumpkin housing anyway?
When you guys are mentioning 12 bolt that’s the number of bolts on the ring gear right? The one in the picture is 10 bolt is it any good?
Thanks
s/t

Re: A trip to the junk yard…..

that first pic appears to be steering assist setup - it is desirable to some - not very common is my understanding. There is a post from earlier in the week where a member rebuilt it and took pics all the way through. I'm sure you'll get some "pull it and I'll buy its".....

Re: A trip to the junk yard…..

If I was you I would grab that ram asist power steering as some like it and they are hard to find. So probably worth grabbing it just to sell or trade to some on here. That is what I would probably do. I f I rember right you would need to grab the ram, hoses, centerlink and all brackets needed to atach the ram. As All the rest is standard to any 67 2wd truck. Just my thought.

The ram-assist is a worth score, for sure.It would snatch good money on Ebay or,of course, anywhere else. The system was used on`67s and was a carry-over from the prior models. So,it`s not just`67 guys that would want it.

I'm considering getting it to do just that, not sure what they will charge, what do you think it's worth? I'll post some pictures on the for sale area with a WIW title.

The one in the picture or the one that would turn the drive shaft from either side?

Re: A trip to the junk yard…..

The power assit is worth getting, yes! The rear end isn't it's not positive traction. Ten bolts is what it takes to put the cover back on the rear end.
The junk yard may know it's worth money to, if they don't then grab it.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

I found two rear ends, one is in the picture. The one with out the cover is the one you are committing about? When people are talking abut 12 bolts they are referring to the cover? I thought it was the bolts on the gear.

Re: A trip to the junk yard…..

The one with the cover off is not a posi

The other could be a posi. Pull the cover and check. Don't pay much for a junkyard posi. Just because the posi works turning by hand doesn't mean it will work with the whole vehicles weight on it. Those clutches and springs can get old and worn out and quit working right.

Re: A trip to the junk yard…..

On the other rear end that you think is a posi... block or have same hold one tire, and then try to turn the other side. If both side want to turn the same direction, then it's most likely posi.
