Bucket seats

1979 C-10 with org. bench seat, Im wanting to get a set of buckets in there and have a chance to score a set from a 73-87 GMC jimmy. Would those brackets bolt right on up or will there be some mod. to be done?

Thanks for any and all help.

Re: Bucket seats

The floor in the jimmys and blazer is flat where the pickups have a hump that the seat sits on. The jimmy seats would need to be modified to fit and may sit higher then the bench. Suburban seats would fit a little better but still need to be modified to bolt down in the back and the inside front mount on the seat has no hole to bolt to in the cab.

Re: Bucket seats

So is there any brackets or set of seats that just bolt up? or is any bracket going to require mods.?

Re: Bucket seats

I hate to nitpick, but this is probably the most asked question on this board. Using the search would find you about 834,932 threads on the topic.

You can read up on your factory options here:

http://www.73-87.com/7387garage/inte...ry_buckets.htm

Otherwise, you'll have to fabricate something. The factory buckets are rare. I have never seen atruck with them.

Re: Bucket seats

I just restored a set of factory buckets and console from a 79, (I think). I'll have to cut the inner brackets off the floor of the 79 to make them work in my truck, an 85 half ton 4x4.

Re: Bucket seats

My '79 C10 got buckets in it, the front is supported by 2x4 blocks but it looks like the rear of the brackets bolts right up to the cab - pretty sure some of the previous owners swapped them in cause they ain't on the build sheet and it was a pretty bare-bones truck when it left the factory, but I ain't got no clue what vehicle they came off.

I may be wrong here, but those appear to be suburban bucket seats to me. I was under the impression that the original buckets were low backs.

Are they the same brackets? I was under the impression that they were not because of the difference in the floors.

Slonaker

EDIT: I just re-read the article I linked above on 73-87.com. It says the brackets are the same.

Re: Bucket seats

I've got a set of factory buckets in my storage unit. They came out of a 77 or a 78 3/4 ton GMC. I've got the brackets to. I don't have a truck yet though. I really need to get a truck. Oh I have the console to.

Re: Bucket seats

Burb brackets are the same as a pickup basically. You need the hump "stand" in the floor from the burb and the rear mounts have to be bent to work, but they will work.

Thumbs up Re: Bucket seats

You may be better off just putting your seat & track in and taking some measurements im sure they will probably be different than what i have but it's just standard 6160 aluminum 1x2 stock cut to the hight required in my case it think it was either 2.5 or 3 " for both sides and then i just drill one hole down through it.
