GMC Truck Rear Leaf or Coil Springs??

I was under the impression from listening to other people that all the Chevy trucks had rear coils and the GMC trucks all had rear leaf springs. My 70 GMC C1500 has rear leafs. While reading through a GMC Truck Dealer Sales Brochure (printed 7/69).....there's a Specifications chart on the last page that states under the C1500 column:

Springs, Rear Coil....1250 lbs Standard & 2000 lbs Option.

Then:
Springs, Rear Leaf....1750 lbs Option.

That's all that was available for the C1500 GMC.

Soooo, All these GMC trucks I see were ordered with the optional leaf springs, while all these Chevy trucks I see kept the Standard coil springs??

Are there Chevys with rear leafs and GMCs with rear coils on 2WD trucks Greg

Re: GMC Truck Rear Leaf or Coil Springs??

Yes, there are there are Chevy's with leafs and with coils, and there are GMC's with coils and leafs. It all depended upon who ordered the truck. This question has been posed lots, just was a matter of choice. With the exception of 3/4ton trucks and 4*4's. I know someone else will chime in on this one.

Re: GMC Truck Rear Leaf or Coil Springs??

This is the only GMC info I have that has this info. It shows rear leafs standard on 3500 only, optional leafs on 1500 & 2500. This is dated 7/69, so isn't it for the 70 trucks?
