will skinny Mickey Thomp Sportsman Fronts hold up my truck???

I want to run these tires in the front of my BBC '67 truck. http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/s...SportsmanFront

they are 4 ply wall and 4 ply tread. but are only rated for about 1500 lbs each (stamped on tires). I know they make an 8 ply version, but i don't want to run them as they don't have the 28" size i want and i think my truck will ride like a wagon then..

will these 4 ply tires work? even though they have a fairly light rating? or is my 4000 lb truck too heavy for them?

thanks!

I run them on my 3500lb BBC 67 truck. No problem what so ever. I don't think I would auto-cross with them...lol
I dont think theres anyway that your truck weighs 3000lb's on the front tires

Thats 3500lb with my 300lb azz in it. So it only weighs 3200lbs! It's a drag only front and back halved, mustang II front suspension and ladder bar rear.

Do Not...... Run Those On The Street..... They Clearly Say For Racing Purposes Only. My Buddy Had A 1969 Nova With A 350 And Did A Hole Shot, Went Sideways Smoken The Rear Tires, Turnned The Steering To Correct The Course, Rolled A M/t Front Runner Clean Off The Rim Then Rolled His Car 6 Times. There For Straight Line Drag Racin Only. Use Your Own Judgement, Be Safe. It Aint Worth It.

These are not front runners...they are the sportsman (street) front runner type. They are DOT approved full tread street tires.
I agree on front runners however.

Re: will skinny Mickey Thomp Sportsman Fronts hold up my truck???

My father has a pro-street 57 chevy with M/T 29.5's on the rear and the same front tires as you are looking at on the front. The car is all steel with a 66 chevelle disc brake front end so there really is no weight reductiion at all. The tires have held up very well and seem to handle alright. Your pickup must be somewhat close in weight. I'd do it.

I wonder then, you'd need a pretty heavy vehicle to run the 8 ply's I imagine. I wonder what weight rating they have on them or if anyone has tried them?
