clutch linkage in a '67 - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Can anyone tell me if this is a stock configuration for my clutch linkage, or did someone mess with it? Looks like someone cut it and welded it to me, but I'm not sure what stock is suppose to look like. It had a 3 speed in it from the factory, now it has a 4 speed.

Is that a piece of rebar next to it? If it is it's a good chance it's been molested. Sorry I don't know very much about the linkages. I did just pick up a 67 myself and it has a 4 speed not sure if it looks like that though. I'll look tomarrow and maybe snap a pic.

The "rebar" is either the spedo cable tube or the parking brake, my guess is parking brake. The linkage on my 70 comes straight out with no bends. I bet the other end of the piece that I drew the arrow to is bent towards the drivers side. On mine it is straight. Looks like it was a 3 on the tree like mine. Hope this helps.

The rebar looking thing is actually the ebrake cable.... Don't know about the clutch pedal linkage, looking for other pictures to campare with....

Is your shifter on the floor now? As the shifter rods are not on the column...

Yeah, it's a four speed on the floor. Just trying to figure out what the P.O. did.

I just ran out and snapped a couple pics of mine. Reminds me I need to get a cotter pin to replace that nail. The duct tape is just there to keep cold air off my nuts in the winter

Lated,I can give you incentive to get the cotter key.I bought a truck and it had the nail fix like on yours.Worked real good for about 2 years(actually I never even thought about it).One afternoion I shifted into third on the highway and the clutch felt somewhat mushy.No big deal I'll check it when I get to the exit a couple miles down the Interstate.When I pulled over and shut down the engine I got a cloud of smoke.The ball pivot had snapped off and the clutch linkage shifted,causing the bell crank(the levered pivot) to lay against the oil filter with the nail point into the tin.The oil had pumped out a little at a time and the engine never ran again.When I replaced the engine I also repaired the oil guage.
So...Go Get a danged cotter pin!!!!

dan42- My 68 with 3 on the tree is the same as yours. Even the weld is identical.

I've got a 68 GMC 250 with 3 speed and the clutch rod is straight, like the one in "Lated's" picture.

I also have a 69 Chev that had a 250 and a 3 speed and it was also straight.

68gmsee's are straight on his 6 cyl's. Mine is a V8, maybe thats the difference.
