Are 350's interchangeable?

My '72 C10 is an automatic with a 350 that may need a significant rebuild.

Since that's not really in the budget right now, I've found a 350 from a 1980 4x4 that I can buy reasonably inexpensively.

Will this be a straightforward swap? Any problem areas I need to watch out for, or reasons this might not work?

Thanks.

Should be straight forward. A SBC is a SBC and they are fairly generic.

Re: Are 350's interchangeable?

If original truck is a 2wd then the turbo 350 has a tailshaft. A 4wd one bolts to an adapter to tranfer case with no tailshaft. There is work required to change over if this is so.

that's only if you are swapping trannys too, but he's only asking about the engine.
85 or so they moved the oil dipstick to the drivers side which is a total PITA of you have A/C, othersise, it's the same.
