Exhaust layout w/ rear gastank - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Anyone have any pics of their exhaust routing through the rear section of their frame with the gas tank mounted in the rear? I am considering cutting two holes in the crossmember above the panhard bar. I want the exhaust to exit behind the rear wheels. I'm not sure if I can fit, say a blazer tank, etc., in the rear section of the frame and still have room for the exhaust. I'm 6" low in the rear. Anyone been down this road?!!

Any help appreicated. I'll show a pic of what stage I'm

I just dumped my exhaust right before the axle. Didn't want to mess with trying to snake it out the back. The only downfall is that it kicks up some dust (if you ever drive on dusty roads). Other than that I like it.

First, if you are dropped 6" in back, I think the Blazer tank will be to low/close to ground. I have seen holes in frame in front, like Polevault's (nice job), but not in the rear. I think that would be too close to tank. The pipes in the pics are mandrel-bent and provide lots of clearance for rear tank or spare...but they go out the back...where us old hot rodders like them.

As Cheyenne Super has already pointed out with the link Early Classic did this but I talked to them about that fuel tank it was nearly $900 because of exhaust. I have also cut the holes in my carrier bearing cross member like you, but will dump my exhaust like slammed67 has done. I've heard his truck and it sounds great.

Thanks for the replies. I may go w/ Slammed67's route. This would sure simplfy things. Just don't want too much cab noise, but like all old rodders, love to hear a sb rumble.

I torched the 4.5 inch holes in the crossmember and welded in a pair of sleeves made from 4.5 pipe. Seems like I parted them off some where between .5 and .75 inches long. Stole the idea from ece. I have another pic. Not real clear.

Here is a link to some pics of mine. I threw one more variable in, airbags in the rear. I did not want anything hitting. It took the guy 4 1/2 hours to do the job but he got it done. It is 2 1/2" all the way out. I did not cut holes in the crossmember either.
