I have a 72 Cheyenne 4x4 that has the aftermarket side saddle tanks. They have the square doors that cover the hole that was cut in the quarter panels to access the fillers. I'm looking for the replacement doors in chrome. Anyone know where to find them? They're about 8" square with locks in them. They were very popular during these years when aux tanks were installed.

Never seen chrome...only in brushed alluminum.

id check the rv supply paces. they still use those door on rv stuff..

when I had body work and new paint....I removed the 2 side tanks and asked the body man to fill the door cutouts before painting....

While the truck was in the body shop; ( a friends! ), I moved the filler spout from each tank to the end of the tank....enabling re-fueling from under the rear wheel well forward of the wheel.

Getting rid of those ugly ( my opinion! ) gas filler door flaps ... gives a smooth, unbroken look to the truck sides...

When I got the truck back, no problem re-installing the aux tanks with the ' hidden ' filler necks..........

I have a set of these aux fuel doors on my truck. The only time I have seen these doors on any truck like ours is on mine. I agree with another person on this thread, and say that I don't like the way they look on the truck.

That being said, if they are brushed aluminum you can easily polish them with some triple-ought (Ot? Awt? Whatever[/B][/QUOTE]

) Steel wool and some decent rubbing compound. This is the way I "polished" the aluminum on my Suzuki Intruder. You can do the same thing with the aluminum swingarm on a modern sportbike, and many people have. I would suggest doing the same thing with any aluminum pieces that you have before buying a new set of doors. You can also have holes drilled into the doors to install a set of tool-box locks into them, available at any auto-parts store that also sells tool-sets. Napa, Big "A", or Parts Plus should be able to help you out. If possible, avoid the "chain" type stores, as they employ people who are usually unwilling or inable to help out in any way.

Thanks for the input. The ones I have are not in great shape, that's why I'm after new ones.
