Emptying gas tank question

I pulled the gas tank from my truck to clean it out in preparation for a new engine. The tank is clean with no rust but does have a tiny amount of junk in the bottom. I have tried draining the remaining gas from all three openings(see picture) but cannot get the final quart, or so, out. This concerns me because I would like to wash out the inside. I was planning to wash it out with hot water and then alcohol or lacquer thinner. However, if I cannot get all of the gas out, I will not be able to get the water/alcohol/thinner out. So...what am I doing wrong when trying to get the gas out of the tank????

Re: Emptying gas tank question

Let it sit outside for a day in the sun and let it evaporate out. You could also blow some air into the tank-----if you have a compressor

Re: Emptying gas tank question

you cant get it out from the fill tube because it doesnt mount flush to the inside of the tank/ the best sloppy way is thru the sender hole// i use apressure washer to dislodge the crap inside then get all you can out byshakin it out thru the sender hole and using a wetdry vaccume with reducers and extensions to finish it off

Re: Emptying gas tank question

Is there a explosion risk with using a vacuum even after blasting the tank with a high pressure sprayer?

Re: Emptying gas tank question

there should not be any fumes after a good long powerwash cycle

Yes, The only way you could get me to use a vacuum cleaner would be explosion proof . Hot soapy water a few times and maybe power wash and use some of that N.C. sun to bake it dry.

Re: Emptying gas tank question

wrap a rag around a stick (make sure you can hold onto the corner of the rag) and sop up the liquid...then let it air dry for a day or so and all should be good. My Dad got some lawn mower gas from a guy that passed away and had an in-ground tank...obviuosly it leaked because I have gotten watered down gas 2-3 times and this method has worked for me.
