Re: New Daily driver!

That is one nice truck! You stole it for that! I gave $3200 for mine and it needed a lot of work, and still does to be that nice! I have the same exact drivetrain in mine. A 305 and 4-speed.

I have been told that this is a rare combination because most of the 305s were backed with an auto trans but I haven't found out for sure if this is true or not. Congrats on such a great score! ...Joe

Talking Re: New Daily driver!

Thanks for all the compliments. My friend didn't want me to get it. He said it was too much. I knew it was a great find. I love the fact that parts are so easy to find. Once the old 305 craps out, I want to get a crate motor from GM. I want to restore the interior and replace the bumbers. The bumpers look like crap. The chrome is flaking off. I'm sure they are the original ones. I have a really nice driver. I don't want a show truck. I want to drive it.

You have a really nice one too. The paint looks alot better from 10 feet away. I has some flaws in it. Good enough for a daily driver.

Yeah I know my paint sucks, but it is slated for a total makeover when I have both the time and money. I drive mine daily right now though so it doesn't need anything on it that's too nice because somebody will mess it up for me. Just something to keep it from rusting!

I also have a fresh 350 waiting to go in but I'm like you I want to wait until the 305 or the clutch goes, whichever comes first. Then I plan to make a lot of changes. I have a new GM 89-91 grille and core support, new GM hood and fenders and I just picked up a good used GM left bedside to replace the aftermarket one with. Hopefully one day my truck will look as good as yours does.

I have found out over the years that it's better to save your money and buy something nice in the first place rather than something like my truck that needs a lot of work. By the time you pay what I did and have to sink that much or even more into it you could have bought a nice one to begin with and wouldn't have to go through all that work!

Unfortunately I live in the rust belt and shortbed 4x4s like this are extremely hard to find in very good condition so you have to start with the best that you can find and start from there. ...Joe

I'm glad they don't use salt here in Utah. I know mine has some rust. I can see the bubbles in the paint. I want to restore the interior first. Replace the cracked dash and fix the power door and window switches. I want it to look like it did 1986.
