Thumbs up My glove box aplication choice

With all the discussion of how to do the glove box door...paint it the same as the dash, look hi and low for a textured one...wood grain, chrome, ect.... I decided to take my chrome one (thanks again PIERCE) and paint the inner portion black while retaining the chrome edging.
I placed good heavy duct tape all along the edge of it to cover what I wanted to keep shiney, and then tossed it into the sand blaster since we all know paint won't stick to chrome tooo long. (at least, not if you want it to stick)
Once I blasted it for a few min, I blew it off and smothered it in high gloss black paint.
What do y'all think? I think it's pretty much awsome. It ballances out the whole dash being that looks much like the guage bezel. Kinda semetrical.
All I need now is one of them $50 chrome ash trays, and a chrome radio delete (if they even exist) plate to do the same to.

WOW .. LOOKIN GOOD .. I WAS GOING TO ORDER A NEW BEZEL FOR MY I/P. I'VE AN ALUMINUM FACE PLATE FOR THE I/P & THE GLOVEBOX DOOR, BUT I THINK I'LL JUST PAINT ONE OF THE OLD ONES THAT I'VE GOT LAYING AROUND BLACK, ALONG WITH THE GLOVEBOX DOOR, SO THEY'LL BE BLACK ON THE EDGES, & ALUMINUM ON THE FACES. THEY WILL GO IN A RED DASH, WITH BLACK CARPET,SEATS, & DASHPAD.

I really like that, as I have a chrome glove box lid too, plus the chrome on mine towards the middle is tarnishing. Do they sell a type of paint that looks like vinyl texture so it will match the rest of my interior?

WOW Andy! I have been considering doing that same thing, just haven't found a chrome glove box door yet. You have convinced me now. 72step, you can buy vinly material, then with some careful cutting and spray adhesive, it could be accomplished. It's a thought anyway.

Try the Dupli-Colog spray bed liner. It's about $6 a can at WallyWorld and it's got a pretty good texture to it that can be overcoated any color you want with regular spray paint. Practice on some scrap material to see how can distance affects the texture so you can get the look you want.

Just a thought, but maybe you could spray it with a hammertone finish to get the texture. Then you could do black, or whatever finish.

devel, you would think so, but it wasn't as cool as you would think.
Plus with my son riding in my truck with me quite a bit, it was ALWAYS having nasty fingetprints on it.

I used silver hammer paint on my rail buggy and the spray on bed liner on my floor in the buggy and both have been holding up real well. My truck frame is sprayed with the supposably hardend under coating and when it is warm it is a little taky.
