Re: setting rearend degree angle?????

Set your ride height how ever you want it stagered. wheels on and on the ground. check you engine angle either off the oil filter base plate or the carb fllange. If its 2 degrees your axle needs to be 2 degrees +/- 1 degree. tilt your axle up or down to match. Then check the drive shaft. it should be within 2-3 degrees of the pinion flange. Have your U bollts snugged up but not tightened when you do this.

If the shaft is 4 or 5 degrees to the pinion flange at ride height you will have to adjust either the engine or the rear or both. But on each end you need to have less than 3 degrees and more than 0. You need to have some degree of angle for Ujoints to work vibration free. it you can't get it in spec you may have to use a 2 piece shaft or a velocity joint.

Once you have it all in spec weld 4 beads on each perch half inch long to the axle, torque the Ubolts and try it around the block. see if its has any vibrations if not weld it permanently. Use new ujoints or it will vibrate no matter what you do.

Re: setting rearend degree angle?????

I'm setting mine up now.Rear suspension needs to be @ curb weight, Next check angle on tranny output shaft. Then set rearend 1 or 2 degrees greater to allow for spring roll under load.
