Poly vs Rubber
I'm working on a Crew Cab and need to replace the body mount bushings and bolts. Trying to decide on Poly vs Rubber and a good source for either.
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks Mike |

poly i only have poly front sway bars but that what was bad when i got it ill replace with poly as each rubber peice goes bad.

Been told im nuts to bring it back from the dead (still going to happen) plans-all stock with a turbo 292 inline 3 speed column shift. and thats it big block 427 and 5 speed trans and ford 9 inch theyhave no home yet thinking what to put them in and a 79 c60 trash truck um no idea i have one

is there a noticeable difference in ride? I once replaced all mine with poly, and it *seemed* like it rode a bit more harsh...

it a more stiff material.ore of a racing thing but i like cornering at 55 in a long bed and going sideways and still holding it. BUt thats me/

Poly body mounts are too stiff in my opinion. This is one area I would use the factory rubber pieces. It'll be a much softer ride without any adverse effects in the handling department. I noticed you live in Texas. I wouldn't worry about them rotting out anytime soon.

While Im sure that Poly cab mounts are not a big deal, you have to remeber the engineering involved. I've seen plenty of tore mounts in different areas because the poly bushings are too harsh on the chasis.
Sure, poly will probably last longer, but I can guarantee that rubber offers a better ride, it's more true to the OE engineering, and besides, how often do you replace the dam things anyway...?

hello,,put poly on my 4x4,,rides good,good price from summit,,but do not throw any of your old parts away,,on my 4x4 u had to use i believe the rear center piece and cut to different lenghth or something like that,(been awhile) just hold on to your old stuff till done 2 be sure..

And I've had the poly mounts go bad. My first 72 K20 is on its second set. I haven't use them since on my 71 K20 or 87 K30.

Trucks ride rough enough without adding stiff poly bushings....I'm sticking with rubber myself, As AceX said how often are you going to have to replace them ?
Mine are 33 yrs. old and still in good shape, I'm only replacing them because I want EVERYTHING new on my truck.

Guys one thing you need to consider is what "poly" bushing we are talking about. There is a BIG difference in polyurethane bushings and polygraphite bushings. Polyurethane is very firm, and can cause a rougher ride as well as crack. Polygraphite is a custom blend of graphite impregnated polyurethane that is much softer, and doesn't squeak.
