Warn Loc-O-Matics
There`s been talk about these here before.I went up to my mom`s last weekend. She`s down in town now and I haven`t been up to the farm since my dad died a few years back.I went scrounging through my stuff and ran across these.I forgot I still had these that were on a truck I had over 25 years ago.Just thought I`d show a picture for those interested. These hus were the first automatics that I know of.I was running 14.50/37s and these. The instructions say to lock-in for weight hauling and compression breaking.Well,I learned that for anything but a quick use of 4wd,I`d better get out and lock with those tires or they`d grenade. It was still great when I`d get light in the rear on a sloped driveway or any short use. Also, running down the road in "free" and patchy snow I could go in & out without running in "lock".But,when I went 4 wheeling,it was likw any hubs, get out and lock first.Cost me some money to learnThese were around $150 back in the`70s.Maybe why the stopped making them.I put $49 ones on the truck to keep these(then forgot I had them)...

Re: Warn Loc-O-Matics
Yeah,I should show pics of the nitty gritty side to give some clue how they work. The one hub is about unused.I went through a few before going to simple hubs. They sure weren`t bullet-proof.I did have better luck when I locked them in.But,why pay all that when I could get L/Os for 1/3 the cost?I didn`t like the housing being aluminum, either.I guess they were luxury hubs back then.I need to look them over, but I think only one is any good.
Burt,do you know Robles Auto Repair in Modesto? They worked on my`72 K2500 right before I bought it.
