Smile how to straighten steering wheel?

I had my 72' 3/4 GMC truck restored and the the guy that restored it didn't mark where the shaft came off the steering box. I still have to take the truck down to have it aligned. After it is aligned what is the best way to straighten the steering wheel if its not straight?, and if I have to take the steering wheel off to straighten it, how do I do this and how does the GMC emblem in the middle of the steering wheel come off.?Thank you all.

Re: how to straighten steering wheel?

the horn button just pops off. you do have to remove steering wheel. any parts store should have a puller, you must use one. they are easy to use and the steering wheel is just put back on straight and tightened back up. make sure to get horn button back on correctly, you will have to remove that assembly as well, but all in all it is super easy. get done and snap horn button back on and you are done. i'm no mechanic, but i've done it a bunch with no problems.

there is a dot on the shaft, and on the wheel, line them up.
When they do your front end, the wheel should then be straight.

But just to make sure, straighten your wheels before you start.

Re: how to straighten steering wheel?

Disconnect the battery, or at least the horn relay connector, before you pull off the horn cap. Otherwise the blaring horn noise will bug you until you rip the battery cables loose. BTDT.

Re: how to straighten steering wheel?

the horn should still work as intended with the button removed... press the ring, it honks, let go, it stops.
