What is this bracket for?

What is this bracket for that is one the drivers side framerail? I want to remove it because I need to make a custom shock mount, but don't know what its for.

The z-bar for the clutch mounts to it........ I removed mine.....

I agree, if you are running an automatic, it can be removed, that frame had a manual trans at one time, the auto frames never had that bracket installed.

if i wanted to put a manual trans back in it, would i absolutely need that bracket or is there different options for the linkage?

You would definately need that bracket for a clutch setup unless you converted to hydraulic.
