I just thought i,d let you guys know the weight of a original g.m. chevrolet tailgate. NO LATCH assemblys just the bare tailgate, original paint, NO RUST ANYWHERE..... 54 pounds. wonder what a aftermarket gate weighs ? anybody got a bare gate they can weigh and post it ?

I picked up an aftermarket one at a swap meet to look at it, It could not have weighed more than 30 pounds. I was suprised how cheap and "tinny" sounding it was. No way it would have held up on a truck that is used for hauling anything.

If I remember correctly, my stock STEPSIDE tailgate weighed about 27 pounds and my repo stepside tailgate weighed about 23 pounds.
