k20 progress pics
i know i always talk about the k20, but im not sure many people on here anymore know just what i started with. so here's my mini bragging/build thread
first pic - what i bought from "teeitup" in november, 2001. a bare cab and frame, had a trans/transfer case on it, and a 350 shortblock engine. finally found out the engine was locked up from being bored 0.020, and having 0.040 pistons put in it. second pic- when i first got it peiced together. had a 327, bought from Huck, in it at that time. the bed came from texas from another board member, dont remember his name though. the rest was bought locally for the most part. i had it all primered a really nice yellow (wanted to go ochre), and some friends at a party one night tiger stripped it with silver spray paint... after that i got pissed and spray painted it all black (i had started doing that in this pic). had some bald 265/75/16s i took off the 89 on it third pic- all black, pretty nice actually fourth pic- not much different other than 285/75/16 buckshot maxxis mudders (more like maxxis slicks!!) and i decided to sand it to bare metal one body panel at a time and prime it red.. im still working on doing that fifth pic- 71 front clip put on it, right before the 327 cracked the intake... that engine now resides in the 71 C10

Its cool that you never gave up on the truck and plan on keeping it. You see so many people get an old truck just to give up if things start looking bad. Its a lot of work but a big payoff in the end. My dad bought a 72 new and i have drove it a lot over the last 30 years and its mine now and needs restored that one will take me a long time i want it to look new again.

Re: k20 progress pics
thanks guys! it has defintly been one pain after another
if i had it to do over again, i would have put the 71 C10 body on it, with the 305 the C10 had at that time untill i could rebuild my 400 sbc. lessons learned dean-- you can come down and start another.. start finishing mine anyways the k20 is down once again the trans locked in 4th gear due to a bad synchro on its maiden voyage, so thats getting rebuilt. also found out the power sleeve, and the NP205 input gear were getting ready to start jumping splines... so, it is going to have a new reverse idler, new synchros, new trans case (bellhousing ear is cracked off on mine), new power sleeve, new bearings, and new t-case input gear hopefully by the end of next week. |
