On The Road Again - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

What started as a day of yardwork morphed into something more when my son showed up to wash his clothes and truck and asked me if I wanted to put the hood on the '67. 2 hrs, many bolts (the front clip was loose as well), 3 qt. of tranny fluid, several cranks to get oil pressure (been sitting for 2 years), cowl installation, air pressure, air in the bags, steering fluid and it started on the first shot of gas in the carb. I have been running it around the block all day...ever increasing distances to make sure nothing goes wrong.

It just needs a windshield, drop spindles and bags installed up front and eventually a "c" notch in the rear. Too much fun just driving it for now after a long layoff. Before and after pics...still a long way from being done but at least it is back on the road. Now back to the Longhorns!

I actually kind of like driving it without the glass...sort like my old biking days...except its harder to lay this one over. I had an appointment to get the glass installed last Monday but there was just no way that was going to happen. I will try again for next week.

oldiron...I still want my flatbed back!

Thanks...I am going for a refined rat rod look. I will lose the wheels and tires (rears are too wide for another 4-6 inch drop) and replace them with some skinny/fat painted metal hoops and wide whites. One step at a time though...and now that it is on the road, I am back on the Longhorns.

Those are EXACTLY what I want... well, that or 20 inch torque thrusts, but I know that ain't happening for a while.

Thats a good looking truck. It's exactly how i want to paint mine but mines a long fleet GMC. What brand are those rims? And how did you go about lowering it?

FRENCHBLUE72...no...I am still working on that bed for another project. Thanks again though and that reminds me this truck has many donated parts since the only original sheet metal is the rear fenders and one front fender. The donated parts I can remember are as follows:
BREEH - Hood and TH350
LEROY (RIP) - Hood...short story (Brent (BREEH) brought it to the first annual road flare barbeque for Curtis (LEROY) and he gave it to me for a burger).
HUCK - White visors
CARS4567 - Wheels and tires
Livrat - Passenger side rams horn

Wheels are generic Ansen slots...no name on them. Truck lowered with bags in the rear (no c-notch...yet), front is cut coils...yeah rides rough but they work...for now.

This is a "minimalist" build...less than $1000 in the truck including purchase price of $500. I hope to detail all the costs in a separate thread once I get a little extra time.

69Rat, The tires are 275 60 15's. They look great but the tires, even though they have great tread, also have the biggest weather checks I have seen near the bead. They are burn-out material for sure! The wheels are 8.5-inch wide with 4.00-in back spacing. I really like the Ansen slots but have to try the steelies for this truck. I would like a run a '40's Chevy small chrome hubcap but need to research it more.

Wheels are a little like women's shoes...you can't live with just one pair/set...LOL!

Keep me in mind if you want to get rid of them, I've always liked the slots and 6 lug are hard to find decent. I need an extra set for studs anyway....
BB are not snow and ice friendly!!!! lol
