Re: New '04 silverado... tasteful hot rodding upgrades??
Go to Fullsizechevy.com/forums if you want more info about these generation trucks. They have a guy on the tuning section that is gonna do my tune, has really good customer service so far(havent gotten it yet) and was referred to me by MANY of their board members to do the tune for me... He's about cheaper than anyone else out there too... His name is Justin or something over there!!! So a custom tuned computer and exhaust will really wake these trucks up!!! You can get one of these tunes done for probably less than 200 bucks and it'll help you out rediculously with these newer generation trucks that are WAY detuned from the factory.

Look around on silveradoss.com and performancetrucks.net.
2 of the main tuners are zippy and wheatley. |

I wanted to keep my original PCM, so I got a core from him and he tuned it. I ordered on a Thursday, and it arrived on Monday. Cost is $159. Best money I have spent on this truck, period!!!

A guy Justin on FSC is gonna do mine for 150 for the tune... but cheaper for me cuz i'm in the Marines... so hes giving me a discount! So I'm gettin hooked up, and he's gonna program it to where it'll turn on the stock E-fans off of '04+ Silverados...

Re: New '04 silverado... tasteful hot rodding upgrades??
i talked to justin and he's gonna hook me up. i wanna build a bit of a sleeper... no fancy cosmetic BS. id like to supercharge and make it suck and blow better, too so a CIA, headers, and free-flowing exhaust would be in order. i want the exhaust to be quiet, though... i dont want anyone to know what im up to

Re: New '04 silverado... tasteful hot rodding upgrades??
BE VERY CAREFUL when upgrading these trucks. The 4L60 really can't take much more HP and TQ than what the stock motors already have. There have been many people who bumped the HP on their trucks and replaced the tranny 10K later. Something to think about. They're about 2K to have rebuilt. I'd add exhaust and a tune to get maybe another 15-20 HP, but I'd stop there.
A supercharger would fry the tranny in a few K. There have been a lot of people happy with the wait4me tunes over at GM-trucks.com

Or... instead of a rebuild the 60E, go find yourself a junkyard 80E... and swap it in.. I'm not too concerned about my 80E going out, even with the 141xxx already on the clock. I'd build as big as you can afford. If it goes boom... Time for bigger and better things.. I know, I'm terrible; Mine is only a towrig, so a SC is out of the question. I want simple reliability without a crapton of money, so I'm just gonna tune, intake and exhaust and call it good

Re: New '04 silverado... tasteful hot rodding upgrades??
^yep, 4L80 MUCH more stout than the 4L60 in the half tons.
Did the 1500HD get the 4L80? I'd assume they did? What about the 6L 1/2 tons, do they have a 4L80?

Re: New '04 silverado... tasteful hot rodding upgrades??
I'm not certain of this... But any truck with the 6L I've seen has the 4L80E... So I'd be willing to bet yes.

Re: New '04 silverado... tasteful hot rodding upgrades??
Great replies here so far.
I have the wait4me tuned PCM on my 2000 5.3l GMC and love it! Unless you go to turbo or a super charger, the OEM 4l60 trans is perfectly fine with most bolt ons out there. Have fun with the truck and post up some pics |

Re: New '04 silverado... tasteful hot rodding upgrades??
I've got an 04 single cab swb with the 4.8 and a 4l60. I have the SLP cold air intake, pacesetter long tube headers with there off road y-pipe, a comp cam (212-218 522-529 on a114lsa) , and hp tuners programer. The truck now has 80,000 miles on it, and I've probably had all this stuff on there for about 55,000 miles with no problems out of any thing. It's my daily driver and I drive it very hard. I really like the Slp cold air kit, at the time I got it, it was cheaper that all the other kits.

Re: New '04 silverado... tasteful hot rodding upgrades??
NO, NO Programmers!
I purchased an AEM Brute Force Intake. I would also recommend a Corsa Exhaust.

Re: New '04 silverado... tasteful hot rodding upgrades??
Yup, programmers are a waste of money. A custom PCM tune is the only way to go, best bang for the buck!

Re: New '04 silverado... tasteful hot rodding upgrades??
Glock said it. I also heard a cam can really kick but on a Vortec/LS style engine.
