Question tachometer problems

anybody have AC and DC voltage reading from the negative side of the coil, and/or tach output from the computer on a 1998 Chevrolet 454. Trying to get tach to read properly in a 1999 Chevy. Cannot take readings myself, as am trying to help from a distance. The readings I have gotten don't quite make sense and would just like some more info for back-up.

more information

the tach signal works, but is reading double, the '99 computer was outputting a 4cyl tach signal, the voltage readings i have been given don't seem correct for a signal coming from the negative side of the coil. I can change the 8cyl reading to the 4cyl necessary, but am running into problems reading the signal from the 1998 454.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
