Factory vacuum gauge
I have a factory tack dash in my 72 Cheyenne. I've been seeing some aftermarket factory-look vacuum gauges advertised lately (reproduction of the original rare version) and am wondering if anyone has tried to install one of these. You have to order new plastic face, guage, and backing. Let me know if you've tried it and what your thoughts were. Sure would finish off the instrument panel nicely.....

I got the kit for vacuum and tach but I already had the vacuum gauge and just needed the tach. The coloring of the printing on the tach is a little bit off, thats the only problem I have. Its not that bad but I am picky I guess

Hey Tom my uncle put a GM vacuum in my 72, but he took the whole cluster out of a 72 c/50.

Hi Chuck, that's how I got my tach was out of an old dump truck, in this case. If only it had the vacuum! Thanks for your reply.
Gee Emm, thanks for your reply as well. Where did you buy your aftermarket kit?

Here's a shot of the rest of the bezel - not the correct tach for our trucks, but I sure like it!

Clocks
The clocks are very nice touches to the dashes in these trucks. You can get them out of 73 trucks and up, like I did.
My question is, has anyone found them new anywhere. I know this isn't a very good picture, but you get the idea.

Hi Mathew,
Just the information I was looking for. You ordered the lens and the guage from him. Are there any other parts you need (backing plate, etc.)? What was the quality of the guage (color, etc)? What all do I need to order? Thanks for your help!!! Tom |

vac gauge & lens
Tom,
All I ordered was the lens and gauge, I considereded it to be good quality stuff. On the housing, I just drilled a 1/2" hole(I believe) for the gauge connection to fit thru. You can see that it will fit if the hole is drilled in the housing. Other than that, it's all pretty easy to do. The vac gauge fits in the housing just like the oil pressure gauge does. Matthew

70s Camaros. Find a 1970 Z28 & get a 150 MPH speedo + an 8,000 tach. I can't find the tach right now, but here is the speedo. There may be some other GM cars with similar parts???

Trwans Ams are good doners too. And I think the tqach has a clockl in there too.
But if I'm not mistaken, T-A may have a full sized tach...like, in place youf your fuel guage. Hmmm...gonna have to look into that. |
