Re: How far have you gone...

My longest truck trip was 400 miles from Eldorado KS to La Junta CO. Drove out one day and towed it home then next. My wife and I did take Amtrak from Dodge City to Chicago to drive home a Chevy II Nova station wagon once. That was a fun trip. The nova was our first family car

Re: How far have you gone...

I bought mine '68 stepside off ebay from what I thought was Paducah KY (About 95 miles away). I got directions and found out it was about 15-20 OTHER side of Paducah. When I got there the truck was another 10 miles away in Bandana. I didn't think we would EVER get there. We pulled it onto the trailer with a tractor, I robbed (not really the guy helped take them off) the doors off another truck ('68 GMC) that he was hauling to scrap (If I had room I'd taken more of it), and homeward I went through the back roads of Far Western KY...no banjo music thats eastern KY.

I Paid $400 for a '76 Cutlass, Drove from Western KY to Charlotte, NC (~550 miles) to get it...pulled it home over the mountains...robbed the engine, trans, shifter, wheels, tires...sold it for $350!

Re: How far have you gone...

My truck came from Lander, Wyoming. A VERY good friend pulled it back here with another truck. It was a straight stick truck so he welded up a hitch to the front bumper, loaded it up with crap he needed to haul this way, put it in neutral and brought it to me. That was 1994.

It is exactly 1000 miles from my driveway to his (old) driveway.

Payback came last fall. He moved back to this state and needed to make 3 more trips east with stuff. I made it two trips. He had his 2nd owner 67 (currently for sale) on a flatbed behind his '06 HD 1-ton. I was behind him in his wife's '03 Youkon pulling his work trailer. We only went 870 or so miles that way from Lander to Fergus Falls, MN.

EVERY stop we made for food or fuel had people asking about the '67.

The only problem we had was after lunch on the way back we came out of a greasy spoon to notice one of the flatbed trailer tires chucked a tread. It was a tandem axel AND we had a full-sized BRAND NEW spare for it.

I love road trips.

Re: How far have you gone...

Well, other than the '67 Panel from Joe Lopez (Joes67) in Michigan, I would have to say the FOUR trips to Glen Burnie MD to get the first Burb. (68) First trip, went to check it out and pay. Second trip, left with the S-10 to pick up the DOLLY in VA from Dad, then up to MD to tow the S-10 home with the Burb. Couldn't get it safe enough to drive, let alone TOW the S-10, so we left the dolly with the Burb and went home to get a BIGGER truck. Wound up borrowing an '86 K-10 for the THIRD trip, back to MD hooked it up, flew down the road. At about SEVENTY mph (at NIGHT), the Burb decides to turn into a Bucking Bronco, bounced one of the safety chains right OFF. Decided to wait til daytime and try again. Got to Orleans MD, and realized the K-10 was NOT gonna make it. Left the Burb in MD. Got the K-10 almost home, when the TH400 bought the farm. Paid $600 to buy one for my buddy. A week later, bought him a $300 NP208 also. The next week boardmember Chevydad (Bill) and I took his Hemi Dodge and trailer down and drug it back. Spent more money to get it back than I did for the $1200 BURB! What a NIGHTMARE!

I won't have the longhorn, so you won't be able to see any caddy stuff... but I WILL be going right through there on I-90. You are just past the 1/2 way point (glancing at the map)
My only question is what time would i be pullin through there?
We'll have to look at this, might be able to do it.
The trip won't be this weekend... most likely it'll be the following weekend.

Re: How far have you gone...

Hey man I have sold vehicles to guys all over the US and Canada!! The last K5 I sold went home to Canada about 5 hrs north of Detroit? He flew into Vegas partied for the weekend and then came to AZ and jumped in the Blazer and drove home. I sold SCJORGENSEN a truck and flew into Phoenix and drove in and delivered the 68. He drove it home about 1500 miles to Houston, TX. Engoy it man, take your time becaue if you get in a hurry then little stuff will eat you alive. It's an adventure not a task!! I personally have driven all over the US picking up trucks and delivering them!! I delivered a Burb to Steve in NC two years ago and will deliver the 67 to TOOMANYTOYS in Dec.

Then I drove it to Tucson. Yeah, it was a dry heat, but it was still hot!!!! I looked at a new VW in late '70 and was told that I would have to pay a wrecking yard to take the car without an A/C unit. Geeze, whodathunk that?

Top down....who needs an air condtioner? Black leather/Honduras Maroon paint.....did I mention it was hot in Tucson??
