new exhaust, camshaft is LOUD!
Long story short, built a motor 5yrs ago for 67 camaro. Sold camaro, kept motor, now in my 70GMC... Motor has solid cam, fairly wild, but runs good.
Truck HAD typical Indiana exhaust. Glasspacks and megaphones. Well yesterday, had new exhaust put on. From manifolds back. They did a GREAT job of tucking it up underneath. I think the mufflers (basically a flowmaster), are almost bolted to the bottom of the bed. Very clean. I don't like pipes, so I had turn down done at the back so you can't see them. Truck sounds good, now to figure out how to quiet down the solid lift cam. It is louder than the exhaust. Anybody found any good underhood insulation that cleans up ok, and will keep noise down?

^^ LOL
Dumb question... Valves adjusted correctly? I would think a insulation pad underneath the hood would do wonders. Something to absorb the sound waves. |

Valves are adjusted. Just a noisy setup with solid lift cam, full roller rockers, girdles, etc, etc....
Does rev nice. when the engine builder turns to you on the first test drive of new motor and says "Don't take it past 7k rpm UNTIL it is broke in!" You know it is mean. I have been to 7 a few times, but not past it. No need. It does rev to 7 faster than any V8 I have seen though.

Yep solid lifters are a bit "clattery". I wonder what Dynomat would do for it? Expensive but I dont know what it would do in the heat?

dynomat does make a sheeting designed for under the hood. From my memory, it has a nice silver, foil covering. Looks like it'd be easy to clean.
