hei spark plug question
What spark plug is used with a small block when it is converted to an hei dizzy? I know that the gape is also wider. What is recomended from users who have converted? This is going into a 307.

You can usually use a heat range colder and bump the gap up .010

Can't recall which plugs I used, but they were same as stock... and yup, gap goes from .035 (stock) to .045 w/HEI

The PO had already upgraded to an HEI distributor on my 71. Im still running AC Delco plugs set at .35 without any problems, well not that many anyways.

unless you lower the compression there is no reason to widen the gap. it takes more mJ to create the ionic field shrouding the contacts leaving less for the actual spark. and it effectively retards the timing.
leave it at .035 and go one step colder. |
