dang it, dang it, my door

so, last night we went out for a ride and all was going well until I gave a guy in an old bronco a jump start. we were driving down a long dirt road and he was dead in the road. gave him a jump (note to self, I need good batt. cables mine stink) so we all ride down to a little paved parking lot near the lake. I leave the truck running and pull the park brake (bad idea should have cut it off and leave it in gear) to get out and talk to the guys in the bronco. as soon as I get up to their truck, I hear my friend hollering and look back to see my truck up against the curb. walk over and see the drivers side door backwards.... cuss...cusss...cuss. dang it. It had rolled backwards and hit a little guardrail thing with the door open, but it could have been worse, the door stopped the truck from goin into the lake. at least I get a good excuse to skip work and go to the junkyard to get me a good door. thought I could do a little hammer work and knock it out a little, but its hard to get to the huge dent. my fender isnt bad at all thank goodness.. just door.. it still closes with some force and opens the same with a hard shoulder into it, and the window still rolls down. shot a little paint over the chipped off pieces.

Re: dang it, dang it, my door

Check the cab for damage too, you may have to tug it out a hair....

That really sucks

We had a day with 40+ mph winds one day long ago back in NY and the wind took my door from my hand and opened it for me after I started to open it...

Didn't do as much damage as yours, but it dinged the door on the fender a bit and I had to pull the door and weld the giant crack that opened above the top hinge But back then my truck was in primer, so some spray can work and it looked new again

Re: dang it, dang it, my door

yeah, I am still kickin myself about it. but I know theres a junkyard around here that have a few of our trucks in it. gonna try to check it out this week, gotta see what the grumpy old man wants for a door. If he wants to be a jerk, I am going back to my parents house soon and scavenge the junkyards there.

Re: dang it, dang it, my door

That just stinks.

Wish you were closer I've got an extra door (its GMC, and a little rusted on the bottom but it doesn't have that big dent in it) that I'd give ya.

Good luck, hope nothing else is screwed up, at least a door is a fairly easy fix.

Kinda makes you never want to stop and help somebody driving a F**d.
Good luck getting it fixed. I hope for you itīs just the door and there is not anything wrong with the cab or the fender.

Re: dang it, dang it, my door

well, I got me a door.
I called the old man at the junkyard up here and he priced me $125. screw that, because I called the upullit back near my folks house and they said $35
, so I went home saturday morning and went shoppin. I wish I had my camera in the junkyard, saw some cool stuff. There were about 6 of our trucks including a 4x4 (no tow hooks). I walked around for about an hour before I decided which door I wanted. it has a few dents and some rust at the bottom, but it was the best one there, and it was already off the truck.
The window actually rolls up easier than my old one and the spot where the hinge bolts to the door isnt ripped out and booger fixed, like mine was. did some quick sanding and spray bombing and good as new, haha almost. I just wanted to get it on. still need to adjust it a little and fix the piece that keeps the door from opening too far. I just wanted to get it on the truck, so will fix more stuff as I get time. I used black paint on the inside, because I ran out of blue, and I was in the mood to paint.

Re: dang it, dang it, my door

I'm glad you got another door, I felt bad for you when I saw that first picture, My poor old Dad ( who is not with us anymore) did the same thing years ago while helping someone, (doing a good deed) His door looked just like yours did. I'm glad you were able to fix your truck. George
